When I was in Wales recently I saw the new exhibition that was opening by Annie Giles Hobbs at the Tenby Museum and Art Gallery.

She uses layers of handmade papers, collographs, mono-prints and etchings to create really detailed and textured works of art. Close inspection reveals tiny areas densely layered with underprinting and layered elements.

Her work has a dreamlike quality to it and references Renaissance art with the use of the long red-haired maidens, dog and bird motif’s and angel-like figures. I loved her use of enlarged lace woven through and behind the figures.

All of the work is left untitled so that the viewer can make up their own meanings to what they see.

Apologies for the poor photo’s but they are worth seeing in real-life as they are so exquisite up close. It’s on until 14th July.
