Do you ever suffer from those times when life becomes so full that you can’t catch up with yourself? I knew, you’d knew what I meant! I began today promising myself that I’d meander through the jobs and just quietly reduce the overwhelm but I feel like I’m running in treacle – where does the time go? The studio is a tip and everywhere I look are half-finished activities which all need proper focus to finish them. At least the washing got done and the dishwasher stacked – two ticks on today’s self-imposed list.
“For every minute spent in organizing, an hour is earned.”
I found this quote and I’m hoping to know it’s truth by tomorrow!

Oh, you’ve twanged my Achilles’ heel, Claire!
There are times (such as when children are small) that 2 things ticked off a to-do list per day is quite an achievement, so well done!
I’ve been meaning to explore Remember the Milk. Have you heard of it? It’s list-making software. Of course, it remains a scribble on my tatty paper to-do list… If you (or anyone else) has found time-management techniques which really work, do please share.

I know how you feel Claire sometimes it feels impossible to make any headway.
We just need to make days a few hours longer, that would help!
I’m a great list fan and d’you know I always stick something on my list I’ve just done, it’s a great moral booster also if I do something not on my list I add it!!! Sounds crazy doesn’t it, that’s cos it is, but it works for me.

Turns out this self employment biz feels like every spare moment should be spent on it….even more behind on the hoovering than I’ve ever been!!
I’m happy to hear about any solution that reduces the domestic chaos

The colour of ideas
My organizational skills are practically zero, I have tried sticking to a timetable two days housework, two days painting and one day for other things, But I am far to easily distracted by offers of coffee or browsing the internet and blogging!! Then everything gets mixed up, the painting seeps into the days I should be doing housework and vice versa and then everything descends into chaos. If you have any tips Claire I would be really happy toe hear them

Yes, I totally know what you mean, Claire! One job at a time is the best way because if you look at everything there is to do at once it’s toooo overwhelming!!
Have lovely weekend, hope you get lots done.

Yup, it’s like that here too! I have two lists, the stuff I absolutely have to do – clothes washing, food shopping and the like – and the stuff I need to do a little less urgently such as finish a knitwear design. I make myself tick off two things on the first list for every one I tackle on the second, where the ‘jobs’ tend to be larger. It works as long as I don’t get derailed, like today when I lost a whole day to taking my dad for an unexpected hospital appointment. One of the problems with working from home is that folk always imagine that as you are at home you are free to give them your time.
If you find the secret to adding hours to your day let me know won’t you

I like the sound of your 2-list system, Annie. Maybe we should push for an extra day *every* month!

I love the quote, the problem is, I think I have a lifetime of organizing ahead of me, in order to gain those valuable hours it promises! Think I might have to live in chaos for a wee bit longer!

I know just how you feel. And if only I could multiply my time like that. An extra hour for each minute of organizing! Sign me up.
