Who knew that knives, forks, spoons and other assorted cutlery could be so much fun to draw and paint?
I have tried to adopt an approach developed in the course I was on recently,
trying out the same item drawn but using different media,
looking at whole shapes and sillhouettes,
and flattening 3D items into flat patterns.

I always like the knives the best. If you google Bridget Davies, she has beautiful black watercolours, we had them at Arts Hut last year.

Thanks for the Bridget Davies recommendation – really inspiring especially where she puts the cutlery images into patterns. Thanks

As a one time print maker this reduction to flat pattern is so familiar … I really like what you’re doing here Claire. Happy experimenting

I like spoons but I find them really hard to draw, I love the tea strainer you have drawn and the patterns on those lovely knives in the bottom picture

Well, now I have discovered that I love cutlery as much as tea cups. I had a friend who made the most beautiful bracelets out of silver forks and spoons…

Oh so much fun -shape and pattern. And then added to your beautiful plates too – well your paintings are going to be extra lovely. Love the polka dot handles with the floral plates. How will you choose what to paint?
